On the back of Deadpool‘s success and the fact that Hugh Jackman has retired as Wolverine (which means that Fox will no longer be able to make Wolverine-centric movies), has pushed Fox to be a little more creaive with their biggest franchise.
In result, we are expacting to get an X-Men: New Mutants. The movie is based on a longstanding spinoff comic exploring the adventures of a younger X-Men squad. So, you are not going to see Cyclops, Storm, Beast, Jean, no Professor X and no Magneto. Instead, there is going to be a new roaster featuring characters like Danielle Moonstar, Wolfsbane, Sunspot, Cannonball, Magik, Warlock and so forth.
The first casting confirmation has arrived with Maisie Williams from Game of Thrones portraying a mutant-werewolf Wolfsbane. Coincidently, Anya Taylor-Joy an actress, who was brilliant in The Witch and had previously worked with James McAvoy in Split is going to play Magik, a mutant sourceress and a sister of Piotr Rasputin a.k.a. Colossus.
I think it is a brilliant casting decision and both of these actresses are going to nail their respective parts. In addition, I’d like to share with you an artwork from Phil Noto, one of the most talented artists in Marvel, celebrating the newest casting addition:
New Mutants are expected to hit theaters on April 13, 2018. Currently, the film is in pre-production.
