Pew-Pew-Pew! The First Trailer for Pacific Rim Uprising is Out

Date

October 9, 2017

The first trailer of Pacific Rim Uprising has finally arrived for our viewing pleasure! If you loved the first movie, you might be a little surprised by this trailer (and not in a good way). Sure, the sequel will, obviously, have gargantuan robots fighting Kaiju beasts, but it seems like the second installment in the Pacific Rim franchise has took a slightly different approach this time around. For starters, the world looks a little bit too clean. One would assume that the world wouldn’t look so polished after years of Kaiju destruction. And that hip-hop soundtrack doesn’t fit the trailer at all! Great song, but not for this trailer.

Guillermo del Toro, the director of the first movie, managed to balance incredibly awesome and incredibly stupid things in his movie, which consequently made Pacific Rim work. Judging by this trailer alone, this movie may be falling off the balance quite a bit, as the trailer included some pretty corny shots, including this one:

Is Clint Eastwood trying to shoot a Kaiju with a bloody assault rifle? It kinda looks silly, right? However, some shots being corny is not its biggest flaw. Its biggest flaw is that it completely spoiled the final battle, where Kaijus merge together to form one, big monster. Wouldn’t it be better if the studio showed restraint and kept that morsel for the audiences to enjoy in the cinemas? Check out the trailer and share your thoughts in the comment section below:

The Uprising will focus around the character of John Boyega as Jake Pentecost, a once-promising Jaeger pilot whose legendary father (Edris Elba) gave his life to secure humanity’s victory against the monstrous “Kaiju.” John will have to save the world against even more unstoppable Kaijus and Clint Eastwood is going to help him out!

The film is directed by Steven S. DeKnight (Netflix’s Daredevil, STARZ’s Spartacus) and also stars Rinko Kikuchi,k Jing Tian, Burn Gorman, Adria Arjona and Charlie Day.

Pacific Rim: Uprising opens in theaters on March 23, 2018.
