Deadpool is expanding his presence in new forms of media – now it is time for television. It has been reported that Deadpool is going to the small screen, the untitled animated TV series has received an order of 10 episodes for the 1st season.
And it makes perfect sense considering the success of Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool. The movie managed to amass a whooping $800 million globally, which is pretty impressive as it is, but if you take into account that the budget for the movie was about $58 million, it is simply mind-boggling. Not only did this flick get Ryan Reynolds set up for life, but it also revitalized the R-rated superhero genre.
The animated series are going to air on FXX and it’s been confirmed that Donald Glover and his brother writer Stephen Glover are going to be the show’s exec producers and writers. Marvel’s Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory also join the team as executive producers. The cartoon is developed by Marvel Television in association with FX Productions and ABC Signature Studios for FXX.
According to Jeff Loeb “Donald and FX – the perfect fit for the Merc with the Mouth. We’re thrilled that our relationship with FX that started with Legion continues with what is sure to be a groundbreaking show in adult animation.”
It is worth noticing that it is not going to be the first time Donald Glover has teamed up with Marvel, Childish Gambino will also star in one of the most anticipated summer blockbusters Spider-Man: Homecoming. Despite the fact that Deadpool 2 is already in the works and Josh Brolin has already started beefing up for the movie, I believe that animated TV series is exactly what the character of Deadpool needs, hopefully FXX and Fox will be able to work things out and debut the animated show somewhere around the premiere of Deadpool 2.
